New Plans for 2010Chigwell School have announced plans for their 2010 U11 Festival which will take place on Saturday 11th September.
The aim is to have as many local schools as possible represented. However, this year’s football event will not be run as a tournament as in previous years, but will run as a festival, whereby each school will play a number of friendly matches over the course of the morning.
The idea behind the change is to give all pupils involved the opportunity to develop their own skills in an environment which caters for their own needs. Above all, the aim is for pupils to enjoy the Festival with maximum participation and schools are encouraged to send a 2nd team if they can. It is envisaged that schools’ 2nd teams will be placed into a group with other 2nd teams and teams from smaller/less strong schools, thus allowing these pupils to play against other pupils of similar ability.
The Essex FA will be sending their Skills Coaches along to the Festival in order to work with pupils when they are not playing in matches. Several schools have already expressed enthusiasm for these new arrangements and it is hoped that as many schools as possible will attend on 11th September

CHIGWELL UNDER-9 FESTIVAL
Chigwell School hosted its first Under-9 Football festival on Friday 5th March. The event took place in glorious spring sunshine and was a great success with over 70 boys participating from four local Prep Schools. Pupils from the schools were mixed into four groups who undertook four ‘Skill stations’ over the course of the afternoon. FA Tesco Skills coaches from the Essex Team, under the leadership of Matthew Joseph put the boys through their paces on two stations, whilst the pupils also undertook two 4v4 stations where they were encouraged to just ‘play’.
It was quickly evident that the pupils gained confidence from these 4v4 matches and also developed friendships with boys from other schools. An environment was created to allow the pupils to enjoy the afternoon without external pressures and the boys clearly enjoyed the freedom that they had to do so.
The festival was designed for all pupils, regardless of ability, to enjoy an afternoon of fun football and the feedback received from the boys supports this. It is envisaged that the festival will turn into a annual event with more schools participating in the future.
U11 FESTIVAL 2009: ST. AUBYN'S LIFT THE TITLE
The 16th Annual Chigwell u-11 6a-side Football Tournament took place in glorious conditions on Saturday 26th September 2009.
25 local Prep and Primary schools competed in the tournament with the format being an initial 5 groups with 5 teams in each group. 16 teams went through to the knockout stages and some excellent football was on display by a number of teams. Hosts
Chigwell were defeated in the Semi-final by
St Anthony’s of Barkingside, whilst
St Aubyn’s of Woodford defeated
St Hugh’s of Ware in the same stage.
St Aubyn’s faced
St Anthony’s in a tense final with neither side able to break the deadlock in normal or extra time. Penalties followed and after both teams scored all 5, sudden death ensured with St Anthony’s missing their sixth penalty and St Aubyn’s scoring theirs.
St Aubyn’s played some attractive football throughout the day and were rightly crowned champions by Chigwell headmaster Mr Michael Punt.
