The ISFA North East U13 Squad enjoyed a memorable day at the Academy of Light when they took on Sunderland AFC in three 25 minute friendly matches
Match 1: Sunderland AFC 1 ISFA North East 0 - This was a very close game indeed and Sunderland only ended up winning it due to a sensational 30 yard strike by one of their outstanding midfielders. After they took the lead, Julian Slater and Owen Gourley created space and went close but the Academy side held on to win the game 1-0. As this was the first outing for a team that barely knew each others names, the coaching staff were very pleased with the outcome. MAN OF THE MATCH: Jonathan Kayji
Match 2: Sunderland AFC 3 ISFA North East 0 - Although the academy team recoded a comfortable win in the second game, the ISFA North East were delighted to give all 5 younger members of the team starting roles; Michael Colquhoun and Torisean Evbuomwan, to name a few, started to look more and more comfortable around their new team mates. MAN OF THE MATCH: Oli Theakston
Match 3: Sunderland 0 ISFA North East 1 - A very well deserved victory. The goalkeeper and back four looked very solid in this game with captain James Hughes trying to dictate the game as usual due to his aggressive runs and determination. Furthermore, the goal came from a well worked piece of play down the right hand side that saw Matthew Bowman, who was sensational throughout, latch on to a through ball by James Hughes to lead the North East to victory. MAN OF THE MATCH: Matthew Bowman
A special mention also goes to Marc Jaques who ended up playing every minute. The player of the day though would have to go to the sensational right full-back due to his great tactical awareness and commitment for the badge he was wearing. PLAYER OF THE DAY: Matthew Bowman
The ISFA staff were extremely grateful to all at Sunderland AFC staff for making the fixture possible and to the parents for travelling/taking time off work to watch the boys. It was a fantastic day for everyone and a great warm-up fixture for the big festival in March.
