CHELTENHAM LADIES VICTORIOUS
Cheltenham Ladies College won the Fnal thanks to a single goal from Ane Etomi. It was a very tight match, with a lot of good passing and movement off the ball. For Malvern, Gabi Bellairs-Lombard and Josi Steiskal both looked to have scored with scorching shots, only to be thwarted by brilliant saves by CLC's goalkeeper Marija Michalczyk. The winner came five minutes from time after a quick break out of defence.
Cheltenham Ladies College and Malvern College had earlier played out a 1-1 draw in their encounter in the group stage, with Josi Steiskal latching on to an excellent pass from Heather Macdonald. Whilst Temi Adesegun, CLC, showed her excellent pace and agility to get past Malvern’s goalkeeper.
UNDER-15 TOURNAMENT
A very close competition was played in very cold conditions. Eventually, Cheltenham Ladies College and Shapwick School fought their way to 1st and 2nd places (respectively) in the league. This meant that the two teams would compete again in the final for the Cup.
Both teams had chances to score during an exciting end to end game, but it finished in a 0-0 deadlock. It came down to penalties to separate the two teams and decide a winner. It was a see-saw, nail-biting shoot-out, where 18 penalties were taken and every player taking at least one! Finally, Jade Sievwright, Shapwick's Keeper, stepped up to take advantage of a Cheltenham miss, and smashed the ball into the net to crown Shapwick champions.
Women's Super League professional player Ann-Marie Heatherson presented the Cup to Shapwick's Captain Alexandra Hamlin-McCorry.
